FM Qureshi departs for United States 'sans protocol'

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday departed for the United States in connection with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session from Islamabad International Airport "sans protocol".

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) official twitter account tweeted a picture of Qureshi's queuing at the airport alongside other passengers. The post has been gaining traction on social media.

Earlier this month, the PTI-led government courted controversy after Prime Minister Imran Khan boarded a ‘special VVIP plane’ as he embarked on his maiden foreign visit since ascending to office amid austerity claims.

PM Imran undertook the state visit to Saudi Arabia on the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman. He met  the kingdom’s top brass and sought to bolster bilateral ties. Other matters of mutual interest including the regional security situation were also reviewed. The premier was accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Finance Minister Asad Umar, Information Minister Chaudhry and Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood.
