Child abduction

Kidnapping of a child is traumatic for parents

KECH, TURBAT: Kidnapping of a child is traumatic for parents. No nightmare could be worse. A rise in child abductions in the country has caused a sense of fear among many households. Parents prefer keeping their children at home than letting them go outside to play.

According to a recently released report, 146 cases of child abductions were reported so far this year in the city of Karachi alone. The report further disclosed that 66 per cent of the missing children were around 10 years old and 94 of them had returned to their homes themselves. Majority of the children who went missing were from the outskirts of the city, and 83 per cent of them were boys.

Karachi appears to be the worst-affected city when it comes to child abductions. However, other cities have also been swept by a wave of fear and concern.

It is time that our law-enforcement agencies acted decisively against kidnappers and handed down death penalty to those found guilty of this heinous crime.
