Pakistan will protect its sovereignty at all costs: FO

Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said that Pakistan would protect its sovereignty at all costs.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua on Thursday said in a weekly briefing that Pakistan would protect its sovereignty at all costs.

Janjua added that Pakistan is fighting the war on terror itself and that the decision about the North Waziristan operation will be taken keeping in view national interest.

She added that the US had not given Pakistan access to Mumbai attacks accused David Headly.

She said talks between India and Pakistan are progressing smoothly and that the Kishan Ganga Dam issue would be resolved under the Indus Water Treaty.

The spokesperson also informed the press that President Zardari will tour Kazakhstan from June 15 to attend the summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Siddique Malik | 13 years ago | Reply Of course, it is easy to defend sovereignty, after it has been violated and until the next incident of sovereignty violation. What sovereignty is she talking about? A country that cannot treat all its citizens -- regardless of religion, gender, race, etc. -- equally has no sovereignty. Army's ability to overthrow a constitutionally elected government with as much ease as changing a light bulb and then have the judiciary validate and the subsequent parliament validate this brazen violation of Article 6 of the constitution does not amount to sovereignty; it amounts to failure as a state. Failed states or failing states have no sovereignty.

Arvind | 13 years ago | Reply This is serious now, First define what "sovereignty" means to pakistan, because according to normal definition, there is nothing like that exist in Pak after drone, OBL, US army presence, cross border attack from Afghan side etc. etc., It is being violated every day by different sources.

Or perhaps the sovereignty was first breached by OBL - which for some reason few in Pakistan seem to care about. The selective use of the sovereignty issue is why few outside of Pakistan give any credence to sovereignty claims.

mahmood | 13 years ago | Reply Unfortunately the only time Pakistan talks about sovereignty is in reference to the USA taking unilateral action against terrorist residing inside Pakistan. I suspect the rest of the World has little sympathy for Pakistan's notion that other countries are not allowed to attack terrorist who find de-facto sanctuary within Pakistan.

Will it protect its soverignity from thousands of Arabic, Chechen, Uzbek and Afghan fighters (so called Strategic assets) living there without proper Visa? Or this Sovereignity mantra applies only to US and India?
