CM Kamal reviews security ahead of Ashura

Officials say a large number of security personnel will be deployed in Quetta

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has urged people to promote interfaith harmony and brotherhood during Muharram.

The CM presided over a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review the security situation ahead of the Ashura. He stressed the need for coordination among the security forces for maintaining law and order.

The security officials briefed the meeting about security measures adopted in view of Ashura processions and other Muharram gatherings. According to the security officials, a large number of security personnel belonging to the police, FC, Levies and Balochistan Constabulary will be deployed along the route of the main Ashura procession and elsewhere in the city. Besides, three battalions of Pakistan Army will be on a standby to handle any untoward situation.

The provincial government has started installing new CCTV cameras across the city to monitor the processions in Quetta while arrangements for air surveillance have also been made, the security officials told the meeting. They also said that investigations were underway over the recent terror attacks in Pishin and Qilla Saifullah.

CM Kamal asked religious scholars to play their role in fostering interfaith harmony in the province.
