DERA GHAZI KHAN/ SARGODHA: An Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) awarded life sentence to a man in a murder case in Dera Ghazi Khan, Express News reported on Wednesday. The verdict was announced by ATC Judge Shakir Hassan.

In custody: Police arrest two robbers

The prosecution told the court that accused Aziz Bhatti and his accomplices had gunned down Elite Force Head Constable Hafeez during a shoot-out in Shahwali Police precincts on February 2, 2013. However, the police arrested Aziz and submitted a challan in the court.

After listening to the witnesses, the judge awarded life imprisonment to the convict. In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs0.2 million which would be paid to the legal heirs of the deceased. The convict will have to undergo an additional six months imprisonment if he failed to pay the penalty.

Two detained for carrying explosives in Hyderabad  

Meanwhile, a drug pusher was convicted by a sessions court in Sargodha. Additional District and Sessions Judge Javed Iqbal Ranjha awarded four-and-a-half-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs20,000 to accused Muhammad Ilyas. The accused was involved in smuggling narcotics while over one kilogrammes of hashish was also seized from him.
