Dying reading habits

Letter September 20, 2018
By reading literature one can become a better human being and communicate well with one another

HYDERABAD: Now what we are witnessing was unthinkable till a few years ago. We are seeing that reading habits the world over is on the decline. Most people do not even read newspapers what to speak of books. They only watch TV and become couch potato which is bad for both body and mind. TV is not a new phenomenon neither is phone. In the past too people watched TV, movies and those who were addicted to talking on phone talked endlessly as they do now on mobile phones, but they also read literature, both prose and poetry. But now what we see can only be lamented. Other than textbooks most people do not read anything else. This is fast turning human beings into robots. This is also resulting in a situation where people are becoming indifferent to one another. By reading literature one can become a better human being and communicate well with one another.
