The clash between the police and terrorists began when the latter attacked a security check post in the Shalotal area.
A police van was also ambushed during the incident, with the driver Rehman Khan losing his life on the spot, while the van itself was completely destroyed.
The district administration has moved more police personnel and Frontier Constabulary troops into the area to bring the situation under control.
