KARACHI: All steps will be taken to ensure eight-year-old Muhammad Umar is provided best care, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said on Monday.

The chief minister made the remarks while speaking at a cabinet meeting. Shah said Umar, who had his arms amputated after a live wire fell on him, would undergo treatment abroad.

Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh said several rounds of talks had been held between K-Electric management and the boy's kin. He said the electric power supply company had agreed to shell out Rs2.5 million for the boy's treatment. The sum had later been raised toRs5 million on Shah's directives.

Umar was critically injured after a high-tension wire fell on his left arm in Ahsanabad, a town adjacent to Gulshan-e-Maymar, in August. The boy promptly used his other hand to remove the wire.



According to the child's family, Umar was rushed to the burns centre at Karachi Civil Hospital where he underwent an hours-long surgery. While doctors were successful in saving the boy’s life, both his arms had to be amputated.
