CM Khan urges digital immigration system in border areas

Says province’s location should be exploited to boost revenue

OUR CORRESPONDENT: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has said that the construction of cargo terminals and installation of digital immigration system in the border areas will help raise the province’s revenue.

He said this while talking to Major General Muhammad Asim Iqbal, the Director General of National Logistic Cell (NLC), at his office, according to a press release issued here on Saturday.

The CM said that extending immigration and customs facilities on the borders with Afghanistan and Iran and establishment of cargo terminals would not only create job opportunities for local people, but also help improve maintain peace.

On the occasion, the DG NLC briefed the chief minister about the construction of Cargo Terminal at Chaman border and efforts to foster trade activities at Iran border. The CM said that the goods produced in the province and the minerals found in abundance here could reach the international markets if the geographical location of the province was exploited properly.

“By building modern telecommunication system in
bordering areas, we can produce goods at international standards,” he said. “We can reach European markets via Iran and we have access to Central Asian markets through Afghanistan.”

Kamal also expressed satisfaction over the pace of work for establishment of cargo terminal in Chaman. He urged the local people to own these projects if they wanted protection of their rights. He appreciated Major General Iqbal, the DG, for taking steps to provide facilities to people on the various highways.

They discussed rehabilitation of Harnai and Sibi rail track during the meeting. The DG NLC told the CM that the Harnai and Sibi rail track project is 95 per cent complete and would be functional soon. The DG assured the NLC’s cooperation over the construction of communication infrastructure in the province.
