KARACHI:
The Pakistan hockey camp has brought a noticeable change in the attitude of the seniors as they help train the younger talent for the upcoming European Tour, according to manager Khawaja Junaid.
The manager and the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) chief selector Hanif Khan have confirmed that the seniors, aware of the competition that keeps increasing by the day, are also working hard at their own game while lending a hand to the youngsters as well.
“I have noticed the change in the way the seniors are conducting themselves,” Junaid told The Express Tribune. “It’s good to see that they are being helpful to the younger players instead of competing against them.”
Pakistan will be taking on Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Great Britain and New Zealand which will help the team iron out its weaknesses in time for the Champions Trophy to be played in December.
“This tour will spell the future squad that will represent the country in the Champions Trophy and the Olympics next year,” said Junaid. “The team will be under pressure against tough teams which will be a good test for the younger players. This is the perfect time to work on their technique and prove their fitness.”
Meanwhile, coach Michel van den Heuvel will be joining the camp tomorrow and will shortlist 28 players after the first week for the tournaments. The camp that began on May 30 is scheduled to end on June 16.
