The Indian army remained tight-lipped on Saturday after a picture circulated on social media showed Indian soldiers dragging the body of a Kashmiri freedom fighter by his feet, Firstpost reported.

The picture was taken after the occupying army martyred five freedom fighters in an alleged encounter in the Reasi district of held Kashmir. Rights activists in the region lambasted the Indian security forces for their barbaric behaviour on Twitter and circulated the disturbing image to highlight atrocities by the occupational forces.

Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez tweeted the picture saying it depicts the Indian army's "human rights conduct". Journalist Ahmed Fayyaz Ali condemned the brutal act, saying that it exceeded all codes of justice.

Professor Hameedah Nayeem called it "the most barbaric conduct of the most professional army". "Even the vilest person would respect the dead body. This conduct fetches awards and trophies in India! Any surprises?" she wrote.

In May 2017, an Indian army major was awarded the "Chief of Army Staff's Commendation Card" after he used a civilian as a "human shield" against stone-pelting protesters.

Pakistan has made efforts on national and international forums to end the atrocities resulting in blood-shed and loss of lives, but no concrete end has been found.
