At least three people have been reported dead in Lyari, while another man was killed in Napier. Tension has gripped certain areas since Yaqoob Katchi of the Katchi Rabita Committee was killed on Monday night.
Despite the deployment of a large number of police and Rangers in Lyari, Nayabad, Daryabad, Shah Waliullah Road, Napier and Kharadar, intense firing was reported across the city on Wednesday.
Forty-two-year-old Hamid Panwar was killed when he was hit by a stray bullet in Memon Society, Khadda Market in Baghdadi police limits. The police said that the deceased lived in the same area. Lyari SP Javed Baloch told The Express Tribune that the victim was an electrician and was affiliated with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) youth wing. He said that his death is not linked to the ongoing violence in the area. His body was taken to Civil hospital and was handed over to his family after an autopsy. The police have registered a case.
Separately, there were reports that two more people were gunned down in Lyari. However, the SP dismissed the rumours claiming that only three people, including Panwar, were killed in the last two days. He said that the two bodies found on Tuesday in Kalri police limits have been identified as 30-year-old Imran Suleman and Adnan Waqas. Neither of them were affiliation with any political party or gangster group.
An unidentified man’s body was found near Mohammad Shah Road in Napier police limits. The police said that the victim had been kidnapped, beaten up, shot and stuffed into a gunny bag nearly two days ago. The body was taken to a morgue after a post-mortem at Civil hospital. The police registered a case against unidentified people.
