Liver-related diseases are on the rise and, once it fails, the liver can only be treated through surgery, NILSI director Dr Rana Qamar Masood said, adding that this is one of the few facilities in the country which can treat liver problems.
The Intensive Care Unit at NILSI is equipped with ventilators and monitors that can perform endoscopies, biopsies and fibro scans, said Masood. While China spends Rs4.5 million on liver treatment, India spends Rs3 million on facilities to treat liver-related diseases, he added.
A team of experts from the Singapore Parkway Group Healthcare will provide training to the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff at NILSI. The team will also perform 13 operations at the facility, said DUHS vice-chancellor professor Masood Hameed Khan.
