British actor Henry Cavill, better known as Superman, has decided to part ways with Warner Bros, reported The Hollywood Reporter. The actor starred in three films: 2013's Man of Steel, 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017's Justice League. Cavill was last seen in this year's Mission Impossible: Fallout, for a cameo role.

Although Warner Bros has been in the process of trying to engage the actor, contract negotiations between Cavill's representatives and the studio went kaput leading to the door on any future Superman appearances closing.

According to DC lore, issues arose due to the studio shifting its focus to a Supergirl film, an origin film featuring superteens. This would mean that an actor of Cavill's age would no longer be required as superman would be a young adult.

As well as that, Warner Bros. is unlikely to produce a solo Superman film for at least a few more years. "Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors," stated a source.

The insider continued, "As such, Cavill will join Ben Affleck, who isn't expected to reprise his role for director Matt Reeves' forthcoming Batman stand-alone film, as a hero on the way out."

However, an official statement from the studio read, "We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged. Additionally we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films."

Cavill on the other hand recently posted a cryptic video on his Instagram page, responding to the reports without actually saying anything at all.

We're still quite unsure what this might mean.

Although Cavill and Affleck are leaving the scene, the other superheroes are staying put. Gal Gadot is returning for Wonder Woman 1984, slated for release in November 2019, Jason Momoa headlines a solo Aquaman movie this December and Ezra Miller remains onboard to star in a Flash movie, which is due to begin shooting in early 2019.
