According to the sources, provincial legislators have decided to discuss the issue during the upcoming session of the Balochistan Assembly while a resolution seeking a probe into the appointment of the VC as well as the appointments made during his tenure is also on the cards.
Under the law, a VC must be a PHD degree holder while the sources claim that Dr Bazai does not possess a PHD degree in any field which makes him ineligible for the post of BUITEMS’s VC.
The sources told The Express Tribune that a majority of the faculty members at the university had been appointed on ad hoc basis, and later declared permanent by the university administration. After the passage of a bill in the provincial assembly in October 2015, “the appointment of VC shall be made through NTS with 60 as minimum pass percentage”, they added.
The sources further claimed that Dr Bazai had also been facing allegation of giving admission to hundreds of students on political basis, alongside waiving their semester fees, trampling the rights of a lot of deserving students.
An opposition party member had been pursuing the issue for many years and has now decided to bring all evidence against the VC in the assembly, according to the sources. A resolution seeking investigation against the BUITEMS VC over the allegations of misuse of powers, corruption and illegal appointments would also be submitted in the Assembly, they said.
