Dam donations

Chief Justice of Pakistan’s fund collection drive to build dams has started debate in Pakistan

LAHORE: Lately, the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s fund collection drive to build dams has started a debate in the country. There is a clear divide between those who see the drive as the only way out of the looming water crisis and those who believe that billions required can never be generated via donations alone.

Regardless of how practical the drive is the government should first work on resolving issues of already existing water conservation resources. The barrage systems built during the British rule need to be restructured as per the evolving needs. It would be unrealistic to expect the Pakistani diaspora to make much generous contributions. Hence, the government should not rely on the funds contributed even more without setting a time frame for it.
