KARACHI: The president of Council for Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) Khushnud Ali Khan and Secretary-General Amir Mehmood have expressed resentment over the mysterious murder of Hong Kong-based Asia Times Online correspondent Syed Saleem Shahzad and have demanded a speedy completion of investigations into and action against the persons and organisations responsible. In their statement, the CPNE leaders have said that the journalist community is suffering from a sense of insecurity and are unable to work properly which is posing a threat to people’s right to information and to the freedom of expression. They said that the journalist community hopes that the government will take practical steps for their safety and will arrest all those responsible for Shahzad’s death.
