Funds for the dam?

Prime Minster Imran Khan has requested Pakistani expatriates to contribute in building the Diamer-Bhasha Dam

HYDERABAD: Prime Minster Imran Khan has requested Pakistani expatriates to contribute in building the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. We Pakistanis are ahead in matters of charity. Even our lower middle class segment is fervently contributing towards the construction of the dam.

However, will our petty contributions really contribute enough for the cause? Are we an unrealistic and impractical nation? A newspaper columnist has rightly pointed out that if contribute in this manner, then it will take decades for us to build the dam.

Nawaz Sharif in his older stint in government also introduced the movement ‘qarz utaro mulk sanwaro (pay off the debt and develop the country)’, but where did that raised amount go? Was there any inquiry or accountability held? Why are our countrymen so easily fooled by mere slogans of nationalism? There should be a rationale and trust should be built before imploring people to contribute.

Imran Khan has made many promises with the people of Pakistan, one of which is to bring change to their lives, and he is being deemed as saviour for a desperate nation. Hence, first he should fulfill those promises on which he won the elections and then beseech people for collecting funds.
