Pakistan’s success in curbing extremism

Letter September 08, 2018
In Pakistan over 2,000 people have been killed and 3,500 injured in sectarian attacks in the past five years

KARACHI: The conflicts, chaos, conspiracies and crises created by sectarian and religious extremism have made the world a dangerous place to live in. Bigots and evil-minded people are behind all this. For their vested interests they have cost millions of lives.

Unfortunately, such evil acts are also carried out under the garb of protecting the interests of the Muslim world. Pakistan is among countries that have borne its brunt the most. All religions advocate peace and tolerance, tell their followers to respect the rights and susceptibilities of all irrespective of their religions.

Whoever are promoting extremism and hate are trying to destabilise Pakistan by dividing its people in narrow groups and are manipulating the minds of the vulnerable with lavish offers.

According to a study, in Pakistan over 2,000 people have been killed and 3,500 injured in sectarian attacks in the past five years. Pakistan is facing a challenging task in curbing extremism and has largely met with success in eliminating the menace.

Both the government and people of Pakistan need to handle the situation carefully and promote peace and harmony in society. We need to see through the conspiracy against our country and try our best to be united for making the country a haven of peace, and foil the nefarious designs of the enemies while maintaining unity in our ranks.
