Tyrants in classrooms

A nine-year-old was ruthlessly beaten up by her teacher in Taxila

KARACHI: A nine-year-old was ruthlessly beaten up by her teacher in Taxila. The grade three female student was beaten up with sticks for being a slow learner, according to a news story published in a national daily. This is not the first time news stories on teachers resorting to corporal punishment have been reported. More often than not, a nationwide hue and cry is witnessed only to be forgotten once the next big story is reported, leaving little children at the mercy of tyrant teachers once again.

Studies have found that corporal punishment gravely affects children’s mental and physical development. Strict actions are needed to ban corporal punishment.
