Drug addiction

In the last few decades, drug addiction in Pakistan has increased

TURBAT: Drugs addiction is defined as compulsive and out of control. In the last few decades, drug addiction in Pakistan has increased. Most of the times, these illegal drugs come in from Afghanistan. Although the problem is alarming, the response is minimal at best.

Few people are available and active in the country to help drug addicts wean off their drug usage. According to the United Nations, there are 6.7 million drug users in Pakistan. The number of drug users is particularly high in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa followed by Balochistan. In 2013, the number of drug users in Balochistan was 280,000.

With such alarming numbers, the authorities concerned should draw up effective plans to curb the menace.
