ATC Judge announces the verdict and imposes a fine of Rs100,000 on the accused

BAHAWALPUR: An Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) awarded life sentence to a man for killing a police volunteer in Bahawalpur on Friday.

The verdict was announced by ATC Judge Malik Shabbir Ahmed. The prosecution told the court that accused Mazhar Hussain had shot dead Police Volunteer Farooq Hussain within the precincts of Sama Satta police station in 2014.

However, the police arrested him and submitted a challan in the court. After hearing witnesses, the judge awarded life imprisonment to Mazhar. In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the accused.

Death sentence of military court convict halted

The judge also ordered the convict to pay Rs200,000 as compensation to the heirs of the deceased.

Earlier, Additional District and Sessions Judge Ikramul Haq awarded life imprisonment to a convict for killing a man in Sargodha. Convict Jamshed had shot dead a passerby Kamran during a clash with his opponents. Later, the police arrested him and submitted a challan in the court. After hearing witnesses, the judge awarded life term to the convict.
