Gender equality: Hazara police’s first female muharrar appointed
Head Constable Gulnaz takes job at an Abbottabad Police Station
PESHAWAR:
To improve gender parity in the provincial police force, the Abbottabad police has posted its first woman muharrar.
She is the first-ever female muharrar in the entire Hazara Division and follows the appointment of the first female muharrar at a police station in the province after Zobia Musarrat was appointed in Kohat in May earlier this year.
Lady Head Constable Gulnaz had joined the police force in 2008 as a constable. She topped her batch in the basic training course at the Police Training College in Hangu in 2012.
In April 2014 she was posted as a head constable at the Women Police Station in Abbottabad.
Abbottabad District Police Officer (DPO) Abbas Majeed Marwat told The Express Tribune that Head Constable Gulnaz had been posted to the City Police Station after she cleared an interview conducted by SP Sonia Shamroz Khan in which she was reported to have performed satisfactorily and cleared for posting in a regular police station.
“This [posting] would solve many problems faced by women in our society since such officers have easier access women,” said DPO Marwat.
This is not something new for Marwat, though. In May, when Marwat was the DPO of Kohat, he appointed the first-ever female muharrar of the province at a police station in Kohat.
After that many female muharrars have been posted across the province.
