LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice (CJ) on Tuesday expressed displeasure over the Punjab government for failing to implement the Health Care Commission Act 2010. The CJ asked the counsel for the Punjab government whether or not the law will be implemented in 2011. However, on request of the counsel, the CJ adjourned the hearing till June 27.

Additional advocate general Muhammad Hanif Khatana assured the court that the government will ensure the implementation of Act if a three-week time was given. He also said that he would file a reply.

The chief justice was hearing a petition against possible strike by the Young Doctors Association and the non implementation of the health care act. Khatana informed the court that many similar petitions were pending before the High Court. He said a committee was formed to hold an inquiry into the previous strikes by the YDA. He requested the court to adjourn the matter until inquiry was completed.
