EOC role lauded in battle against polio

PTI MPA pledges full support to the centre

QUETTA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) elected MPA Umar Khan Jamali on Tuesday visited Provincial Emergency Operation Centre Quetta pledging full support for the centre, which is striving to make Balochistan a polio-free province.

The Coordinator of Provincial Emergency Operation Centre Syed Faisal Ahmed gave briefing to the elected MPA during his visit and updated him about the efforts of the EOC in battling against the polio virus.

“We have been making utmost efforts to eradicate polio virus from Balochistan. We ensure that all children below the age of five are administrated anti-polio drops,” Syed Faisal said, adding that the department has controlled the virus in major parts of the province.

PTI’s MPA Umar Khan Jamali said that the polio centre, including volunteers and staff, have been performing their duties to save children from lifetime disability.



“The polio workers have been battling with the virus on the front line and their courage has been emboldening us to intensify our battle against the virus,” Jamali said and added that the provincial government aims to make Balochistan polio free.

He said that the government and health department cannot defeat the virus alone.  “We need fully support of the society including parents and religious scholars to purge out polio from our soil,” he added.

In 2018, only three new polio cases surfaced from Balochistan while Quetta, Killa Abdullah and Pishin Districts have been declared high-risk areas of the province where the polio virus is still active and is endangering children for lifetime disability.
