She was addressing a meeting to review the thalassemia programme on Monday. The minister directed officials that blood donation drive should be continued on a permanent basis. "Thalassemia is a genetic problem and through public awareness, it can be avoided. There is a need to get a blood test done before cousin marriage."

The minister said that all problems will be solved to make the thalassemia programme successful. "During the current year an amount of Rs100 million has been spent and Punjab government will be moved to allocate another amount of Rs70 million." Meanwhile, during a briefing by Project Management Unit she said that companies which were supervising outsourced health facilities should be bound to extend their expertise to the health department.
