A day after the tragic death of 26-year-model Anam Tanoli, PTI presidential nominee Arif Alvi called for a 24/7 helpline for those suffering from depression.

"Millions of people especially women under different socio-economic pressures face depression and some commit suicide. Psychiatric help should be readily available including a 24/7 helpline," tweeted Alvi.

And many agree:

Tanoli was found dead at her residence in an upscale neighbourhood of Lahore on Saturday with police saying that she committed suicide.

According to the police, Tanoli’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house in the Defence area. The body was shifted to General Hospital for a post mortem.

According to reports, she was battling severe depression. It is not clear whether the depression was due to personal issues or her career.

Many a times I spoke to concerned people to involve me in activities to improve people's mental health but I never got a positive response from anywhere. It seems that no one wants to be treated here.
Abdul Hadi Shah | 5 years ago | Reply Thanks to Dr Arif Alvi sb for touching a very sensitive topic. Our govt and well off need to tackle it on a war footing as descent facilities available in country charge ridiculously high around plus 3 lac per month if you end up admitting a patient who unfortunately do not cooperate with family to take prescribed medicines. Kind Regards
