Cut in petrol prices

Letter September 03, 2018
The cut in the rates has come as a welcome relief for the people

LAHORE: In its first official notification on petroleum products since being elected to power, the PTI government has reduced the rates of petroleum products. The rate of petrol is cut by Rs2.41 per litre, from Rs95.24 to Rs92.83, for the month of September, but that of high-speed diesel has undergone a bigger cut of Rs6.37 per litre, coming down to Rs106.57 from Rs112.94.

The cut in the rates has come as a welcome relief for the people, who expect further reduction. It goes without saying that the rise in the cost of transport due to the rise in the rates of petroleum products makes all consumer items dearer. The rising price of diesel, in particular, costs the public dear. That’s why perhaps the news federal petroleum minister, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, has announced that he would bring the rates of diesel close to that of petrol.

I sincerely hope and pray that Prime Minister Imran Khan and his team get successful in their pursuit of a naya Pakistan.

Haider Shahid
