Lauding victims of abuse

Letter September 02, 2018
#MeToo has clearly manifested the magnitude of the problem in different societies.

RAWALPINDI: We do not accept them and we expect them to report incidents and share their stories. I applaud the young woman abused in F-9 area of Islamabad in that she mustered up the courage to speak up against this sinister crime. In a society where she will likely be treated as the culprit afterwards and where she will likely have to face many challenges but she still managed to report. There would be many more who will blame her for being raped. No girl ever asks for it. Secondly, why are matters related to women treated as taboo? Males too get abused and harassed but we never get to hear of them. I have heard of many male adults having been harassed by strangers on streets or when they give lift to strangers on bike. Society is so disinterested that it does not help even the dominant gender protest the wrong being done to them. How could we expect the weaker sex to open up their secrets and get ridiculed for it?

#MeToo had clearly manifested the magnitude of the problem in different societies. I even saw many males having shared the post. Was there any step taken against that? Even adults are unable to protect themselves in this perverted society. How could minors defend themselves?
