Culturally inappropriate reference

Families for long have stayed away from Lahore’s infamous theatre industry

LAHORE: Families for long have stayed away from Lahore’s infamous theatre industry. There’s no denying the fact that stage plays used to be inappropriate for families and catered to specific crowds only. However, the former government took action against the producers and actors who indulged in and promoted obscene acts on stage. Hence, the Punjab information and culture minister’s order to remove inappropriate posters from the streets is admirable. Yet this in no way entitles the minister to address the stage actors harshly and question their moral values.

Certainly, stage actors can be instructed to have an appropriate conduct yet what one does in culturally-unsuitable plays has more to do with directors and producers. Government officials and public representatives must stick to their duties that include fixing the wrong in the greater interest of the public, but they should stay away from individually targeting any one person when the rest involved are equally responsible.
