Over 3,000 children were abused in 2017
This was highlighted during a briefing session arranged by the Search For Justice and Child Rights Movement on Thursday to brief participants about issues which require serious action.
Search For Justice Executive Director Iftikhar Mubarik informed parliamentarians that Pakistan ratified the United Nations’ (UN) convention on children’s rights. This means that under the convention, Pakistan is obligated to take all legislative, administrative and other possible measures to ensure the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) are implemented.
Child rights body fails to start working for want of members
Mubarik also discussed the absence of a child protection policy in Punjab, the need for prohibiting child domestic labour as well as increasing the minimum age of marriage for girls.
