Learning through mistakes

HYDERABAD: Imran Khan and his party members are new to a federal government setup. It is one thing to govern a province — in this case Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa — and completely another to govern an entire country. So it is understandable that Prime Minister Imran Khan and his ruling party will take time — through trial and error — to learn the tricks of the trade.

However, this does not mean that we should keep giving them concessions for every mistake they make. Their mistakes can become costly for the entire nation and its people. The PTI stalwarts have time and again defended the actions of their party and Mr Khan. Be it the case of Mr Khan fumbling while reading the oath or whether Fawad Chaudhry stating that it is extremely cheap to travel by a helicopter.

In doing that, these loyalists abuse and yell only to appear stupid in front of others. Would they have spared Nawaz Sharif or Asif Ali Zardari if they had done the same? Definitely, not.

Hence, what these followers can do instead is acknowledge that a mistake has been made and then affirm that their party will only learn from it for the betterment of the country. This would save them and their party, and most importantly Mr Khan, from looking hollow in front of the whole nation.
