Political Rivalry: ANP, MQM’s MOC offices attacked in Keamari

KARACHI:

People grew scared in Keamari after the Awami National Party (ANP) and Muttahida Organising Committee (MOC) offices were attacked on Monday.

According to Jackson SHO Tariq Raheem, armed men attacked the ANP office in Machhar Colony after the Muttahida Qaumi Movment’s (MQM) sub-organisation, MOC, office was inaugurated in Macchi market. The SHO said that both party’s activists opened fire, during which the police and an armored personnel carrier were also attacked. Unidentified men later came and attacked the MOC office and set the furniture on fire.

“Everyone knows which party has a stronghold in Keamari,” said the SHO. “It was just a matter of pestering them and they have started [clashing].”

Although no one was hurt, the area echoed with gunshots. The police have registered three cases, two for attacking the offices and one for attacking the police, against unidentified men.
