Two separate incidents have led to unfortunate consequences for the police officials involved

KARACHI: Over the past couple of days, two separate incidents have led to unfortunate consequences for the police officials involved. Both incidents took place in Punjab. In one, a police official was transferred due to his reported ‘overstepping’ his authority involving the First Lady’s former husband. In the other, a police official was removed from his post for not following the rules and making way for the vehicle of Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed in Rawalpindi.

In the two incidents, one was removed for abiding by the law and the other for not abiding by it. The government should rather specify it, for its own officials, what would be the possible outcome of an action, depending on the parties involved and the influence that they exert. The present situation will only lead to inaction where action is needed. Considering this aspect of the issue, the government should do the needful without any further loss of time.
