According to a press release issued by the PCB, a special meeting has been called on September 4 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore where the election commissioner with the deputy election commissioner Ahmed Shahzad Farooq Rana will hold the elections.
Earlier Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan — who is also the Patron of the PCB — had nominated Ehsan Mani and Asad Ali Khan as members of PCB BoG, in a notification issued by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC).
Soon after the resignation by the former PCB chairman Najam Sethi, PM Imran had nominated Ehsan Mani — who is the former International Cricket Council (ICC) president — as his pick for the new PCB chairman, but according to the constitution of PCB, the patron must nominate two names for representation on the BoG, in case the chairman resigns.
Later Khan nominated Asad Ali Khan — who is currently a board member on, both, Punjab and Pakistan Veteran Cricket Association — as his second nomination on BoG.
Sethi had resigned as the PCB chairman after Imran Khan took oath as the new premier of Pakistan.
He had said in his resignation: “I believed I have served the cause of cricket diligently.”
Furthermore, he had thrown the ball in Imran Khan’s court by saying: “You have said on many occasions that you have a vision for Pakistan cricket. Therefore, it is only proper that you should assume charge and responsibility for assembling a management team for PCB that enjoys your full confidence and trust.”
The 70-year-old had also wished Pakistan cricket team and the board best of luck by saying: “I wish PCB all the best and hope our cricket team goes from strength to strength.”
The new chairman will command authority over the PCB for a period of three years.
