What is Naya?

A DPO was transferred because of his instructions to monitor the movement of Imran’s step daughter

KARACHI: Not even a month has passed after Imran Khan was elected prime minister of the country and cracks in the claim of bringing about a ‘Naya Pakistan’ have already started appearing. The recent incident of transfer of a DPO in Punjab on whose instructions police constables were monitoring the movement of Imran’s step daughter as they mistook her to be the first lady of Pakistan, Bushra Imran, a few days ago, has come as a warning signal for the government that it should not act like previous governments. The fact that an ordinary citizen’s — in this case Bushra Imran’s first husband — ‘complaint’ could get a DPO transferred is worrisome.

Though Prime Minister Khan and his government haven’t given any statement yet, their silence on the matter is deafening. A government which was prompt to respond to a morning’s shows appeal for an ailing child has chosen to keep mum on the issue.

If Khan or his party members do not respond quick then it will give room to the Opposition parties to accuse the government of favouritism, an aspect that was very much present in the ‘purana’ Pakistan.
