KARACHI:

Pakistan turned the tables on hosts India in the 16th Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East Championship when they ended the fifth day at the top of the table despite losing in Chennai.

Picking up from where they left off on the previous day, Pakistan beat Saudi Arabia 25-5 and Sri Lanka 25-4 which handed them 50 points as they went top of the table. However, they lost their last round match against India 18-12 to finish the day with an aggregate of 285 points, just five ahead of the hosts.

With the wins, Pakistan not only progressed to the final round but also confirmed their place in the Bermuda Bowl World Championship to be held in Netherlands later this year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s women’s team failed to qualify for the Bermuda Bowl World Championship as they ended their run with 176 points behind India and Jordan.
