KARACHI: A District West judicial magistrate issued arrest warrants for owners of 16 factories accused of spreading air and marine pollution. The magistrate directed the Station House Officers to arrest the suspects and produce them before the court.

The environment inspector of the case, Rao Zeeshan Ahmed appeared before the court on Monday. The investigation officer revealed that the environment agency led by judicial magistrate had paid a surprise visit to the factories in SITE which included those related to stone crushing, textiles, and dyeing. They were contributing to marine and air pollution as they had not taken preventive measures to curb the menace, thus violating the Environment Act.

During the judge's visit, notices were issued to the factory and company owners, but they did not pay any heed. The court receiving the registered cases against the owners of the factories, Khurram, Majeed, Qadeer Athar, Hannan, Burhanuddin, Adeel Sheikh, Dr Jan Hussain, Masood, Riaz Yousuf including several others, had summoned them, but the orders of the court were ignored.
