After launching a mobile app to fight crime earlier this year, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police launched a Snapchat account to be able to communicate more clearly with the citizens of the province.

The photosharing giant is a popular medium to send and receive disappearing images and this initiative is set to appeal to the younger generation of the province.

It is not exactly clear how a Snapchat account will help increase communication between the police and citizens but the move is seen as an attempt to incorporate technology into a more rigid policing system.

The mobile app launched earlier this year is available for Android devices and can be downloaded from K-P police’s website free of cost.

“By pressing one button, the police would automatically be notified promptly about the crime, and concerned police stations and city patrol forces will reach the site immediately,” according to IG K-P Salahudin Mehsud while addressing the media on the occasion.
