Eid cattle markets

KARACHI: Though Eidul Azha has ended, the festive mood is still alive. But this should not make us forget about some of the unethical ways adopted by people for sacrificing their animals.

In many streets in Karachi cattle sellers had put up tents where a number of animals were kept in areas such as Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, etc. This should be strictly prohibited as streets linking to one’s house were closed, as a result of which commuters and motorists had to take longer, alternative routes to reach their desired locations.

On the other hand, butchers sacrificed big animals, such as camels and cows, right on the roads. As a result, they blocked one side of the two-lane road completely and caused traffic jams.

The above-mentioned issues do nothing except cause a nuisance for people. The authorities concerned should devise stringent policies that stop people from doing these things. Those indulging in such practices should be imposed heavy and deterrent fines.

People should not be allowed to do whatever they wish do to in the name of religion. No religion asks its followers to cause problems for others and it’s time we realised that.
