The phone runs on a lighter version of Google apps, optimisations and operating system which provides “the phone up to 1.5 times the available storage capacity compared to its previous offerings.” The J2 Core is based on the Android 8.1 Oreo and not the Android 9 Pie version of Go.

“The Galaxy J2 Core offers a complete smartphone experience, incorporating some of the key features available on high-end devices with an improved battery, storage, and performance that is particularly appealing to first time owners,” said Junho Park, Vice President of Global Product Planning, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung in a blog post.
Galaxy J2 is equipped with a 2600 mAh battery and 1GB RAM and 8GB storage while the camera is only 8-megapixel rear-facing with a 5-megapixel front camera. It comes with an Exynos 7570 processor.

Previously, the ZTE Tempo Go was released which also runs on Android Oreo’s Go version. It was priced at modest $80.
Galaxy J2 Core is set to release first in India and Malaysia. While Samsung J2 sells at a little over $100 with obviously better specifications than the Core, the price of J2 Core is yet to be revealed.
