QUETTA: Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai has called for conducting an international conference to highlight the positive image of Pashtuns living in Pakistan, saying their struggle has always been for equal treatment of Pashtuns living in the country.

Addressing a public gathering in his hometown – Gulistan Killa Abdullah–on Eidul Azha, the PkMAP chairman said, “We are not against Pakistan, but demand equal rights for all nations. Pakistan is passing through a difficult phase which can be solved only by equal treatment of all nations.”

He urged all Pashtuns to unite in order to address all the challenges being confronted by them.

On the general elections held on July 25, Achakzai said, “We have been punished in the elections due to our categorical demand of free and fair elections. Rigged elections will push the country towards more devastation.

“Generals and judges are bound by law to uphold the Constitution,” said Achakzai, urging the institutions to work within their boundaries.

On surging violence in neighbouring Afghanistan, he said, “For last 40 years, the Afghan nation is tasting bloodshed. Everyday Afghans are lifting coffins of their loved ones and desire an independent and democratic Afghanistan.”

He said calling an international conference to show the positive image of Pashtuns living in Pakistan and Afghanistan was the need of the hour.
