Sharif family members, senior PML-N leaders meet Nawaz in Adiala
A total of 47 visitors came to Adiala Jail
RAWALPINDI:
Members of the Sharif family and senior leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) arrived at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to meet deposed premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz on Friday, Express News reported.
Nawaz, daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar are currently serving 10, 7 and a one year sentence handed down by an accountability court in one of the corruption references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in line with the apex court’s July 28, 2017 order.
A total of 47 visitors, including family members of Nawaz, former speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, former foreign minister Khawaja Asif, Pervez Rasheed, Mussadiq Malik, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Raja Zafarul Haq and Daniyal Aziz were allowed to meet the former premier and Maryam.
'Nawaz, Maryam to spend Eid with family'
Strict security arrangements were made by the authorities ahead of the meeting. Only those whose names were on the list of visitors were allowed to enter the jail premises by the officials.
Shehbaz Sharif, Nawaz's brother and president of PML-N, had visited Adiala Jail along with Hamza and Suleiman on the first day of Eidul Azha.
It is pertinent to note that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had deferred petitions filed by the convicted members of the Sharif family seeking suspension of the accountability court’s July 6 verdict till after summer vacations.
Sharifs to stay behind bars on Eidul Azha
After hearing the case at length for days, reprimanding and fining the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for wasting its time, the IHC division bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, said: “at this stage we are not inclined to decide these petitions and they shall remain pending and fixed along with the appeals.”
