Army soldier martyred, three others injured in North Waziristan IED blast

Incident happened when a emote-controlled explosive device targeted an army bomb disposal squad's vehicle, says ISPR

One soldier was martyred and three others sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded targeting an army bomb disposal squad's vehicle in North Waziristan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Thursday, said the military's media wing.

According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the team was on a routine search and clear operation as part of the ongoing Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad.

Havildar Ahmed Khan, 38, belonged to Mianwali district. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.

Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, or Elimination of Discord, was launched in February 2017 after a sharp uptick in terrorist attacks in the country.



On Wednesday, at least five people were killed and seven injured during an exchange of fire in Mardan.

The firing also injured a passerby.

According to sources, Ghalib Khan and his relative Nausher opened fire on each other. As a result five people died on the spot.
