Capital’s filtration plants in abysmal condition

Residents urge proper maintenance and repair of taps to avoid long queues at these plants

ISLAMABAD: The water crisis in the country is worsening on a daily basis and clean drinking water is hard to come by and citizens throng to filtration plants to procure the precious commodity.

However, the state of these  plants is a lot to be desired for and in the federal capital the situation is more or less the same.

Residents in Islamabad have urged the authorities concerned to check proper maintenance of water filtration plants at different sectors of Islamabad which were in a dirty condition and not functioning  properly.



A resident of sector G-7, Ahmed Raza said "Many water filtration plants have broken down with leaking taps with a large of quantity of water being wasted daily."Residents of these sectors said,"Water filtration plants at F-6, G-6, G-7, I-10 and I-8 Sitara Market are in dilapidated conditions as the taps are broken."

They said,"Official timings of water supply from 10:00am to 10:00pm but still they were facing water shortage during the time fixed by the authorities concerned."

Another resident of sector I-10 Faheem Ahmed said ,"I had to wait to get water in long queues waiting for my turn as only two taps were operational at most water filtration plants."

Fawad Khan, a resident of F-6, said,"Due to negligence of the authorities concerned, water filtration plants installed at various sectors for provision of clean drinking water were neither repaired nor were their filters replaced on a regular basis."

The residents urged authorities to take immediate measures for the timely provision of clean drinking water and maintenance of these plants.



Residents of G-7 sector said it was the fundamental right of every citizen to have clean drinking water but sector G-7 and F-6 were still lacking this facility as there the water filtration plant were in dirty condition and most of them not working properly."

A senior official of Capital Development Authority (CDA) said filtration plants have been installed by the authority in different sectors to facilitate the residents with clean drinking water as the matter of their proper maintenance our teams have been deployed at different sectors on weekly basis at each particular sector."

He said,"We are committed to check proper maintenance and residents needs to register their complains to their nearest complaint offices so that it would be helpful for us to be aware of dysfunctional water filtration plant at each sector.
