SSWMB shares plans of offal removal

SSWMB has chalked out a plan to lift offal and to ensure cleanliness in District East localities

KARACHI: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has chalked out a plan to lift offal and to ensure cleanliness in District East localities. Briefing a meeting of the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) East Council Executive Director Asad Abro about the plan to lift offal this Eidul Azha at a meeting held at council hall Jamshed Quarters zone, he said that eight collection points had been set up in the zone, while 14 others had been set up in the Gulshan zone. Trenches had been dug in Jam Chakro and Gond pas, he added. He assured that complaint centres will be set up and SSWMB will inform citizens about it through the media.

Council members suggested that more vehicles be provided to lift offal, referring to failures in the past. The members also briefed the participants about their respective union committees and urged that dustbins be provided to every committee and garbage be lifted before Eid.

The council members regretted the shortage of sanitary staff despite the biometric system being in place and the lack of sweeping operation. They demanded that the UC vice chairperson should be empowered to monitor the offal lifting process.

While sharing his views, DMC East Chairman Moid Anwar suggested SSWMB to consult every UC representative when lifting garbage and offal. He asked SSWMB to arrange sufficient vehicles for staff to ensure offal was lifted in every UC of District East and also told to place sufficient dustbins in suitable places in the area.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman DMC East Abdul Rauf Khan, Municipal Commissioner East Akhtar Ali Sheikh, Secretary Nadir Khan, Director East Ghulam Abbas Mangrio, Nafees Ahmed Khan and representatives of Chinese Company were also present.
