As the assembly elected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mahmood Khan as chief minister of the province on Thursday, it was reported that Jhagra would tender his resignation to the president after administering the oath to the Khan and vacate his official residence.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) Jhagra was appointed the 28th governor of the of the province after Sardar Mehtab Ahmad resigned from the post in February 2016.
Jhagra also served as PML-N's secretary-general. After losing in the 2013 general elections, he was accommodated on a general seat in the Senate.
Keeping in view that a governor represents the federal government, Jhagra's resignation was expected as the country witnesses second democratic transfer of power from PML-N to PTI.
