Increasing rape cases

Letter August 15, 2018
Eleven cases of child abuse and 18 cases of heinous crimes against women are reported every day in Pakistan alone

ISLAMABAD: Be it minors or women, over the past two years a rise in the number of rape cases has been witnessed internationally. Eleven cases of child abuse and 18 cases of heinous crimes against women are reported every day in Pakistan alone.

Are people getting aware enough to report the cases? Or criminals have been encouraged by the lack of action by the authorities? Or the repetitive news on media of such cases has aroused the physical tension among people? It’s difficult to say. In Lahore alone, 149 cases were reported last year, 77 girls and 79 boys.

According to studies, sometimes survivors grow up to become abusers themselves. As a result, these children should be provided professional help. Though it is hard to erase the memory of that trauma, proper counselling and treatment can help them grow up to become normal and civilised human beings.
