Resilient women honoured in Independence Day anthem

Fashion designer Maria Butt salutes the country's women through a campaign

The country's 72nd Independence Day is in full swing with people all across Pakistan celebrating the day with utmost passion. Likewise, local celebrities are also honouring the country in their very own way.

‘Women empowerment is key to development’

Fashion designer Maria Butt, popularly known from her apparel brand Maria B, has launched a campaign on Pakistan's Independence Day that celebrates the women of the country.

While the song titled Pakistan Meri Jaan serves as a backdrop to the video, Bilal Haider brings nothing new to the table. And much like Junoon's latest video of Khudi, the campaign highlights some of the finest people from the country - except Maria sheds light on females only.

It kicks off with a message that reads, "This song is dedicated to all the women of Pakistan. Your resilience and courage inspires us. Thank you for never giving up and always making Pakistan proud."

The video then acknowledges Rameesha Shahid - Pakistan's first female kickboxer, Sumaira Waris - Pakistan's first female tabla player who also dons a hijab and Rafia Qaseem Baig - Pakistan's first woman to join the bomb disposal unit amongst many others.

Holding firm to Muhammad Ali Jinnah's idea that states, "No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you," the video features women which have held their ground and proved to excel in their respective fields - sending the message of women empowerment.
