The inaugural ceremony of the first phase of tree plantation campaign was held on Monday to double as a celebration of the 71st Independence Day with a theme of “Green Pakistan”.
Around 150 trees were planted at the main campus of KMU. Different varieties of tree saplings were planted during the first phase. A variety of tree saplings were contributed by Tarnab Farms, K-P Public Health Association and Dr Shazia Naz for it.
KMU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Arshad Javaid said that trees are an investment for the future generations which shall provide cleaner air to breathe.
“This is a sadqa jariah for generations to come,” he said, adding it is the result of climate change and global warming that we are experiencing severe heat waves for the past two years, which have claimed more than 1,000 lives.
He added that environmental pollution and the daily rise in temperature coupled with high deforestation rates were the catalysts for this changing world.
